1940s-Themed Steakhouse Opens Flagship, Plans Nationwide Expansion

Champaign, Ill. — Hamilton Walker’s, a contemporary steak and seafood restaurant, opened its flagship in Champaign, Ill., on December 14, 2016. The polished, relaxed steakhouse, with a 1940s Hollywood and Prohibition-era theme, delivers classic American comfort food with modernist notes.

“We articulated [the founders’] wishes into a stylish casual dining and bar experience by evoking 1940s Hollywood and the Prohibition-era,” says Brian Margulis of Creative Hospitality Associates, the Chicago group that developed the operation. The group created the Hamilton Walker’s brand with a whimsical legend about its intriguing, eponymous fictional founder, Hamilton Walker. “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story,” the legend begins.

The design of the restaurant is “Hollywood Regency” with modern, streamlined flourishes. It includes period signatures from ornate chandeliers and gilded mirrors to rich mahogany and cherry woods, and white and charcoal Carrera marble. “The aura is muted and refined, tuned just right for comfort,” says Margulis. The 1940s flair is amplified in the bar at night, when the lights are dimmed and the décor assumes  a film-noir palette and filtered glow.

Hamilton Walker’s expects to establish its second location in 2017 in a soon to be disclosed major media market before embarking on a phased national rollout.
