Chicago — The interiors team at Englewood Construction, one of the country’s leading commercial construction firms, recently completed work for General Growth Properties at Water Tower Place in Chicago and for GK Development at the Peru Mall in Peru, Ill.

“Englewood is well known throughout the country for doing excellent work for national retailers at major shopping centers,” says William Di Santo, president of Lemont, Ill.-based Englewood Construction. “Our professionals bring with them the experience necessary to work in these environments and understand the importance of delivering showcase quality work. This is very important today, as strong retail brands continue to take advantage of the real estate market and expand to high-profile locations.”

In Chicago, Englewood Construction completed a 5,000-square-foot space reconfiguration for landlord General Growth Properties at Water Tower Place on the iconic Magnificent Mile. Chicago-based Shapiro Associates LTD. served as the architect for the project.

Englewood was hired to change the interior layout and motif of the retail space to accommodate a new tenant. No stranger to Water Tower Place, Englewood Construction has built a number of stores in the shopping center, including the 52,000-square-foot build-out of a two-story space for popular retailer American Girl in 2009.

“We have a good working-relationship with General Growth and we are glad they chose us once again to work on one of their flagship properties,” says Di Santo. “This site is as high-profile as it gets in Chicago and it is important to understand the intricacies and requirements that accompany working in a vertical shopping mall. Tenants want to stand out in a crowded field and that starts with the presentation of the space itself.”

In the LaSalle-Peru area, Englewood was hired by GK Development to complete prep work for a 14,990-square-foot JoAnn Fabric store at the Peru Mall.

The Peru Mall is the only enclosed, regional shopping center within a 55-mile radius and is a major destination for residents of LaSalle County. Working with Lakewood, Ohio-based ADA Architects Inc. on the project, Englewood performed demolition and site due diligence work for GK Development.

“Working in high-traffic areas can bring a unique challenge,” said Di Santo. “We always take into consideration other retailers and mall patrons when we work on projects like this. It’s important to the client that there is as little disruption to the mall’s daily activity as possible.”
