Burlington, Ontario — The highly anticipated IKEA Halifax store opened on September 27, 2017 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, near Halifax. The 330,000-square-foot store is the 13th IKEA store in Canada and the first in IKEA Canada’s coast-to-coast expansion; the retailer will open 11 additional stores by 2025, doubling its footprint in Canada.

“With the IKEA Halifax opening, our ambitious expansion plans are on track. We have built IKEA Canada’s most sustainable store, created hundreds of new jobs and provided Atlantic Canadians with an opportunity to share in IKEA’s vision to create a better everyday life for the many people,” says IKEA Canada’s president, Marsha Smith. “It’s a truly exciting day for IKEA Canada.”

IKEA Halifax is the retailer’s most sustainable store in Canada and will be the first LEED-certified IKEA store in the country. Its sustainable features include: rooftop solar panels, the first solar wall at a Canadian IKEA, a geothermal energy system, electric vehicle charging stations, the first living wall at a Canadian IKEA store, and free lightbulb and battery take-back services.

IKEA Group is a leading home furnishing retailer with 343 stores in more than 28 countries. IKEA Canada has 12 stores, an e-commerce virtual store, six pickup and order points and 14 collection points. The company also plans to open a store in Quebec City.
