Loehmann’s Names New CEO

New York — Loehmann’s Holdings Inc. has appoined Steven M. Newman as its new CEO. In Newman’s 25 years in women’s retail, he has positions in store operations, design and merchandising.

 

New York — Loehmann’s Holdings Inc. has appointed Steven M. Newman as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Newman will also be a member of Loehmann’s board of directors, and will join the company next week. Mr. Newman assumes the CEO role from interim CEO Joe Melvin who will remain as COO of the company.

Newman brings more than 25 years of experience in the women’s retail business, having most recently served for 4 years as president of Ashley Stewart Inc., a women’s specialty retailer. While there, he was responsible for overseeing all areas of the company including merchandising, marketing, design, production, retail operations, store presentation, planning and allocation, and CRM. Prior to that, Newman was executive vice president at New York & Company, responsible for merchandising, design and store presentation. He has also spent time with Eddie Bauer Apparel, Brooks Brothers, Ann Taylor, Gap, Inc., Burdines and Macy’s.

Founded in 1921, Loehmann’s is one of the original outlet department stores. Today, Loehmann’s operates 40 stores in 11 states and the District of Columbia.
