Mattress Firm Promotes From Within; Expands Company Stores

Houston — The Mattress Firm has made several promotions of senior executives and acquisitions to its corporate store platform.

Houston —  Mattress Firm Holding Corp., the nation’s largest mattress retailer with 1,300 company owned and franchised stores, has made three promotions of senior executives. Ken Murphy has been promoted to chief operating officer, a position that was previously vacant. Murphy was previously executive vice president of sales and operations and has been with the retailer for 15 years. Sam Woods, who joined the company 17 years ago as a franchisee, succeeds Murphy as senior vice president of sales and operations. Most recently, he was a divisional vice president of sales and operations. Kindel Elam has been promoted to executive vice president and general counsel. Elam joined in 2012.
The company has also agreed to acquire the outstanding equity interests of Sleep Experts Partners, which operates Sleep Experts retail stores in Texas. The company acquired all the assets of Mattress Firm operator Yotes, Inc. in Colorado and Kansas and the Virginia locations of franchisee Southern Max, LLC.
