El Paso, Texas — Following its announcement in May that it would be growing from 29 to 100 locations by 2019, Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar, a Dallas-based casual dining concept that combines a family-friendly restaurant and sports bar under one roof, is well on its way to achieving its goal with several recent openings and franchise signings.

U.S. Department of Energy Recognizes The Wendy’s Company

Mobile, Ala. — On August 31, 2016, The Wendy’s Company and its franchisee, the Wendco Group, will receive national recognition from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with a visit and tour of the newly rebuilt Wendy’s restaurant in Mobile, Ala., to showcase the company’s innovations in reducing energy use. Wendy’s has cut energy use by 37% at the Mobile location.

Newk’s Eatery Welcomes New CFO

He will closely manage Newk’s financial trajectory, deliver crucial brand support and guide financial communications for Newk’s as it gears up to nearly double in size by 2019. Little Caesars Expands New ‘Express’ Store Format

Detroit — Campbell Oil Company, owners of the Minuteman Food Mart/Marathon convenience store, partnered with Little Caesars Enterprises, Inc. to open the first Little Caesars Express site in the nation in June 2016, located inside one of its convenience stores in Supply, N.C.

Benihana Inc. Names CEO and President

Aventua, Fla. — The board of directors of Benihana Inc., operator of Benihana, RA Sushi and Haru Sushi restaurants, has named Thomas J. Baldwin its new chief executive officer and president. Baldwin will be based in Aventura, Fla., and responsible for Benihana's 100 Benihana, RA Sushi and Haru Sushi restaurants as well as the 10 Benihana franchised restaurants.

MOD Pizza Plans 11 New Restaurants in Houston

Houston — Transwestern represented MOD Pizza in 11 new leases in Houston, bringing the retailer to 15 open and planned Houston locations. To date, MOD is operating close to 150 stores across the U.S. and the United Kingdom and plans to open 50 more stores by the end of 2016, including five U.K. locations.

Amicon Construction Building First Rubio’s Restaurant on the East Coast

Miami — Amicon Construction Management (ACM) is managing the construction of three Rubio’s Coastal Grill locations in South Florida. San Diego-based Rubio’s has more than 200 locations in the southwestern U.S. Rubio’s first South Florida location — also its first on the East Coast — will be located in downtown Miami and is expected to be completed this fall.

Diversified Restaurant Holdings To Spin Off Bagger Dave’s Restaurants

Southfield, Mich. — Diversified Restaurant Holdings, Inc., the largest franchisee for Buffalo Wild Wings® and creator and operator of Bagger Dave's Burger Tavern®, intends to split into two separate, publicly-traded companies through the tax-free spinoff of its Bagger Dave’s business to DRH stockholders. The company previously announced on May 24, 2016 that it was evaluating strategic alternatives for its Bagger Dave’s restaurants and brand.
