First KOHLER Signature Store in Canada To Open in Vancouver

Vancouver — Kohler Co. is expanding availability of its renowned kitchen and bathroom products with the opening of the first Canadian KOHLER Signature Store at West Broadway and Fir Street in Vancouver. The new store, solely owned and operated by EMCO Corporation, will open at the end of March.

Kroger Names President of Fred Meyer Stores

Cincinnati — The Kroger Co. has named Joe Grieshaber as its new president of Fred Meyer Stores, replacing Jeff Burt, who resigned on March 20, 2017 to become Target Corporation’s senior vice president of grocery, fresh food and beverage. Grieshaber had been serving as president of Kroger's Columbus, Ohio, division.

Lands’ End Names New CEO

Dodgeville, Wis. — Jerome Griffith has been hired as chief executive officer of Lands' End, Inc. Griffith most recently served as president and chief executive officer at Tumi Holdings, Inc. He has also joined the Lands' End board of directors.

DXL Men's Apparel Opens First Store in Canada

Canton, Mass. — Destination XL Group, Inc., the leading retailer of men's XL apparel, has crossed the border into Canada and opened a new DXL store in Ajax, Ontario, in Harwood Centre. This is the first DXL Men's Apparel store to open in Canada, and a second will be opening soon in Mississauga, Ontario.

Upper Canada Mall Plans $60 Million Redevelopment for 2018

Toronto — Oxford Properties Group plans to redevelop and expand the former Target location at Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket, Ontario (Canada). The redevelopment includes the introduction of a one-level, 64,000-square-foot Sport Chek location, a 40,000-square-foot first-to-market Food Market concept, a new two-level feature court space and a 35,000-square-foot vertical expansion. Construction officially commenced in February and the redevelopment is scheduled to open in 2018.

Ross Stores Opens 28 New Locations

Dublin, Calif. — Ross Stores recently opened 23 Ross Dress for Less® and five dd’s DISCOUNTS® stores across 15 different states in February and March. These new locations are part of the company’s plans to add approximately 70 Ross and 20 dd’s DISCOUNTS locations during 2017.

Gordon Brothers To Acquire Wet Seal

Boston — Gordon Brothers plans to acquire the Wet Seal retail brand. Launched in 1990, Wet Seal is known for its surf-and-sun aesthetic for fashion-focused teens. The acquisition also includes other brands within the Wet Seal portfolio such as Arden B, Blink, Chic Boutique and several others. The transaction is pending final court approval.

Saks Fifth Avenue Opens Third NYC Store

New York City — Saks Fifth Avenue has completed its newest store and third New York City location, Saks Downtown Men’s. The 16,000-square-foot store is located at the northern end of the burgeoning Brookfield Place in lower Manhattan. A dedicated Saks women’s store opened on the south side of Brookfield Place in September 2016.

JCPenney To Close 130-140 Stores

Plano, Texas — J. C. Penney Company, Inc. is implementing a plan to optimize its national retail operations. Under the plan, the company expects to close two distribution facilities and approximately 130 to 140 stores over the next few months.

DICK'S Sporting Goods To Open Five New Stores in Three States

Pittsburgh — DICK'S Sporting Goods, the largest U.S.-based, full-line omnichannel sporting goods retailer, will be opening five new stores during the second week in March, totaling approximately 180,000 square feet of retail. Openings for new stores in Davenport, Iowa; Queens, N.Y.; and Hinesville, Ga., will occur March 10 through March 12.
