Boston — The Frye Company has chosen an historic building in Boston’s Back Bay to open its second U.S. flagship store.

Boston — The Frye Company has chosen an historic building on the corner of Newbury and Gloucester streets in Boston to open its second U.S. location. The handcrafted footwear retailer is taking more than 11,000 square feet on three levels at 284 Newbury St. and anticipates an early spring 2013 opening.

“With the success of Frye’s first U.S. location in Soho it was important for their next site to be comparably as significant. That Frye chose the location at Newbury and Gloucester Streets in Boston’s Back Bay is testimony to our building and the strength of Boston’s retail scene,” says Andy LaGrega, a principal of The Wilder Companies.

“Retail space of this size and frontage is at a premium on Newbury Street,” says David Mallen, also a Wilder principal. “The combination of creating their shop in this historic building surrounded by some of the world’s best high fashion retailers makes it ideal for Frye’s New England flagship location.”

John A. Frye founded the Frye Company in 1863 to reflect the uniquely American spirit of optimism and independence through his handcrafted footwear. As the nation’s oldest continuously operating footwear label, Frye has become an iconic symbol of American heritage, cultural movements, and timeless style.

The Frye Company operates a retail flagship location in the Soho neighborhood of New York City. For more information, visit www.thefryecompany.com.

Frye was represented locally by Boston Urban Partners and nationally by RKF, New York City. The Wilder Companies is a partner in and represented the ownership group of 284 Newbury Street.

The Wilder Companies specializes in the merchandising and positioning of retail properties. In addition to its own investment partnerships Wilder provides property management and leasing services for institutions, owners and investors.
