Richmond, Va. — The new CIO, Shamim Mohammad, has been vice president of application development and IT planning since he joined CarMax in 2012.
Richmond, Va. — CarMax, Inc., the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, has promoted Shamim Mohammad to senior vice president and chief information officer.
Mohammad will be responsible for the strategic use of technology throughout the company. This includes the development and support of all information systems, establishment of application architectures, efficient infrastructure usage and information security. Mohammad has been vice president of application development and IT planning since he joined CarMax in 2012.
Richard Smith has served in the role of chief information officer since 2006 and was CarMax’s first associate. Smith will retire on October 10 after more than 20 years of service.
“Shamim was identified as a potential successor when he first joined CarMax and has provided significant contributions as a technology leader since that time,” says Tom Folliard, president and chief executive officer. “I want to thank Richard for his contributions and dedication to CarMax, and congratulate Shamim on his promotion. Richard will be working closely with Shamim to ensure a smooth transition.”
Smith worked on the original CarMax concept in 1991 and participated in the overall design of CarMax’s customer experience. He was instrumental in the development of the company’s IT infrastructure and growth.
