Centennial, CO—Construction has begun on IKEA Centennial, the new 415,000-square-foot store planned in Centennial, Colo., near Denver. Reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainable building practices, the new store will be the first U.S. IKEA store to integrate a geothermal system in its heating and cooling system. When it opens in fall 2011, IKEA Centennial will also be the Swedish retailer’s first store and restaurant destination in the state of Colorado and its 38th in the U.S. Currently, there are more than 300 IKEA stores in 38 countries. The home furnishings retailer was founded in 1943.
