Food Lion Completes $127 Million Remodel of 87 Stores

Salisbury, N.C. — Food Lion has remodeled 87 stores across Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia for $127 million. Additionally, 73 of these stores have received the Energy Star certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy thanks to energy-efficient equipment, technologies and procedures.

The company’s recently unveiled new format offers a wider variety and assortment of goods across all departments; a greater number of natural, gluten-free and organic items; a larger variety of local craft beer and limited reserve wines; a bigger selection of easy and affordable meals for families; a wider variety of grab-and-go items and pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses; a larger selection of fresh produce and meat; a more efficient checkout process; and new groupings of similar products to make them easier to locate within the store.

By the end of 2021, 23 of the remodeled stores will offer Food Lion To Go, Food Lion’s grocery store pickup service. The service allows customers to order online what groceries they want and then pick up the groceries outside of the store.

Food Lion also donated $145,000 to Feeding America member food bank partners in the areas of the remodeled stores and each of the 87 stores will make a one-time donation of $500 to a feeding agency nearby.
