by Nate Hunter

Minneapolis — The new stores will be located in Augusta, Ga., Newnan, Ga., and Algonquin, Ill. Opus has previously completed four retail buildings for Gander Mountain in Alabama and Georgia.

MinneapolisThe Opus Group plans to build three 52,000-square-foot retail buildings for St. Paul, Minnesota-based retailer Gander Mountain. The new stores will be located in Augusta, Ga., Newnan, Ga., and Algonquin, Ill. Opus has previously completed four retail buildings for Gander Mountain in Alabama and Georgia.

“Our work with Gander Mountain is a testament to the value of strong partnerships and creative collaboration,” says John Williams, vice president of Opus Design Build, L.L.C. “We look forward to continued work with Gander Mountain as they further their expansion into new markets.”

The new retail facilities will help Gander Mountain achieve its vision for a smaller, more open concept retail space. An open floor plan organized in a circular path will allow customers to conveniently move throughout the mercantile floor and help to accommodate large outdoor recreation goods and equipment.

“Passion for the outdoors is what matters most to us, and our continued partnership with Opus is helping us offer the best outdoor and recreation retail experience to Gander Mountain customers,” says Eric Jacobsen, Gander Mountain’s executive vice president and director of real estate.

In addition to mercantile floor space, each building will include office and storage spaces designed for maximum efficiency with the store’s retail operation team in mind.

Opus Design Build, L.L.C. is the general contractor and CMA is providing architecture services. Construction on the new buildings will progress through the summer with completion slated for fall 2014.

Beyond these three projects, Opus Design Build, L.L.C. is also performing tenant improvements on a 96,275-square-foot space at an existing Gander Mountain store in Forest Lake, Minn. These renovations are scheduled for completion in fall 2014.
