Atlanta — On Oct. 21, Barnes & Noble will open its newest Atlanta bookstore in the neighborhood of Toco Hills. The new Atlanta store will be located in the Toco Hills Shopping Center in a space formerly occupied by Westside Market.
Barnes & Noble has had its share of drama in Atlanta recently. In August, it was forced to close its historic and much-loved bookstore in Cumberland. More happily, it reopened in Edgewood in July, bringing back a bookstore to the neighborhood in which it closed in 2022, and the new Toco Hills store restores the number of its bookstores in the Atlanta area. The next activity for the bookseller is to relocate its bookstore just a few doors down in Peachtree Corners.
The design of the Toco Hills store showcases the ambition of Barnes & Noble to create exceptional local bookstores that marry the best traditions of independent bookselling with the resources of the historic chain. The store is over 14,000 square feet and will offer a comprehensive range of books as well as toys, games, magazines, gifts, vinyl, greeting cards and more. Local author James Dean will cut the ribbon and sign copies of his acclaimed book series, Pete the Cat.
Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth and strong sales in its existing stores. The bookseller has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. The new Toco Hills Barnes & Noble is one of three stores to open on Oct. 21, joining stores in Littleton, Mass.; and Ontario Mills, Calif. Barnes & Noble now has more than 730 bookstores, with total of 60 new openings expected in 2026.
“We are very pleased to open another beautiful new Barnes & Noble in Atlanta,” says James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “There has been an unprecedented investment in Atlanta, with relocations for the Edgewood store and next in The Forum at Peachtree Corners, as well as the new bookstore at Toco Hills. It remains for us to find a replacement store for our much-missed Cumberland location.”
