Baltimore — Baltimore-based design, planning, architecture, interiors and graphics firm DDG will provide design services for the renovation and expansion of three existing shopping centers in Guatemala and for a new shopping center in Honduras.

The four projects, designed for Spectrum, one of the premier shopping mall developers in Central America, include:

• Naranjo Mall, a new mall in Guatemala City;

• Miraflores, a multi-phase expansion adjacent to an existing shopping mall in Guatemala City;

• Expansion and renovation of Oakland Mall, also based in Guatemala City; and

• Renovation and master plan expansion of the existing Cascades Mall in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

“All four projects are in the very early stages of concept and schematic design,” says Ahsin Rasheed, DDG’s chairman, CEO and president.

Rasheed notes that DDG has a long history of working with Spectrum. “DDG previously designed three other Spectrum projects in Central and South America, including Fontanar Centro Comercial, a new mall now under construction in Colombia,” he explains.

DDG was also responsible for architectural design, brand identity and environmental signage and graphics for another Spectrum development, the 132-store Portales retail project in Guatemala City. Cited for creating a fresh, contemporary bridge between the comfort of tradition and the energy of the modern retail experience, Portales was the winner of the prestigious 2013 ICSC Latin America Shopping Center Award.
