Plantation, Fla. — DHL Express, the world’s leading provider of international express shipping services, recently expanded its vast network of U.S. retail locations with a new mobile pop-up store in Gaithersburg, Md. The 2,200-cubic-feet, 100% off-the-grid, mobile DHL ServicePoint offers a safe, easy-to-use shipping option for customers.

Local consumer shipping needs have accelerated significantly, with many first-generation Americans shipping to their native countries in Africa. The new unit, located at 260 N. Frederick Ave. in Gaitherstowne Plaza, is the fifth location in the greater Washington, D.C., area, which also has pop-up stores in Silver Spring, Md., as well as Tysons, Alexandria and Woodbridge, Va.

“We have continued to see the increasing demand for our pop-up stores in the greater Washington, D.C., area. With the addition of the Gaithersburg location, we can now offer these convenient shipping options to more customers in the Northwest suburbs of the city,” says Chet Paul, senior vice president of commercial for DHL Express U.S. “Across the U.S., these innovative mobile stores address the growing demand for international shipping services while providing a faster, more convenient experience.”

The new ServicePoint is boosted by a solar-powered system with backup batteries charged at the local service center — helping reduce energy consumption and contributing to the company’s mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The efficient point-of-sale system is capable of processing shipments to U.S destinations as well as any of the 220 countries and territories DHL serves. Supplies such as bubble wrap, packing tape and DHL-branded boxes are available at the mobile unit.

To create this mobile DHL ServicePoint location, DHL worked in collaboration with Flexetail, a leading designer and builder of mobile shops that offers brands an affordable opportunity to test products, explore new markets and launch new lines.

In addition to these new company-owned stores, over 3,500 independently owned DHL ServicePoint Partner stores continue to play a critical role in the company’s retail strategy within the U.S. market. All locations provide DHL Express international express shipping services (among other brands), global knowledge and expert advice to help businesses reach the international marketplace.

DHL is the leading global brand in the logistics industry. DHL is part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, which aims to achieve zero-emissions logistics by 2050.
