Chicago — On July 13, McDonald’s has expanded its global senior leadership team. According to CEO Chris Kempczinski, Jill McDonald will be returning to McDonald’s as executive vice president and president, IOM, overseeing the company’s five largest wholly-owned international markets and its IOM Business Unit, consisting of its remaining wholly-owned international markets.

McDonald formerly served McDonald’s as chief marketing officer for its UK business and Northern Europe, and later became the managing director for its UK business and president, Northern Europe.

In her tenure, she sustained strong performance across all metrics of the business, including a strengthened brand, a reinvigorated employee experience and double-digit sales growth, all while fostering successful franchisee performance and engagement.

Most recently, she was CEO of Costa Coffee.

McDonald will rejoin the company on September 5. She will be based in London, reporting directly to Kempczinski.

Additionally, Jo Sempels will continue to lead McDonald’s international developmental licensed markets (IDLM) as senior vice president and president, IDL. His responsibilities will now include McDonald’s large, fast-growing China business.

Sempels will also report directly to Kempczinski, effective immediately.

“I am extremely proud of our international team’s progress in driving our Accelerating the Arches strategy. With Jill, Jo and their leaders in respective segments, we are well positioned to continue building on our success,” says Kempczinski. “I look forward to even greater growth across these markets through an enhanced customer and crew experience, and improved connectivity and collaboration between our Market and Global teams.

McDonald’s is the world’s leading global foodservice retailer with more than 39,000 locations in over 100 countries. Approximately 95% of McDonald’s restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local business owners.
