R&R: Where are you based, and how long has the company been in business?

Hal Moorefield, Moorefield Construction

Hal Moorefield: Moorefield Construction Inc. headquarters are located in Santa Ana, California, with a second office in Sacramento, California. Moorefield Construction is a family-owned company and just celebrated 65 years in business under the same name.

R&R: What is your name and title, and how long have you been with the company?

Moorefield: I am Hal Moorefield, vice president, and have been with the company for over 40 years.

R&R: What construction services do you offer retailers and restaurants?

Moorefield: Moorefield Construction Inc. offers full general contracting services including design-assist and design-build for ground-up, renovations and tenant improvements.

R&R: In what regions of the country do you conduct most of your business, or are you nationwide?

Moorefield: Moorefield Construction Inc. operates and has completed projects throughout California, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest and the Mountain States.

R&R: What makes your company’s “signature service” stand out in the industry?

Vineyards at Porter Ranch was a high-end lifestyle center consisting of 14 buildings, including a two-story multi-tenant building with a community room, 9-screen AMC theatre, 24-acre site including underground utilities, fireplaces, water features, children’s playground, Bocce Ball court, and extensive off-site work including new medians, street widening, new signalized intersections and a highway crossing.

Moorefield: Moorefield Construction Inc. has three principals in which each principal is directly involved and oversees each and every project from the commencement through completion. This along with the outstanding Moorefield personnel provides for a successful project.

R&R: What kind of feedback do you receive from clients?

Moorefield: In addition to the quality projects Moorefield is known for, we provide extraordinary “customer service” placing the client’s interest ahead of everything else. A testament to Moorefield’s success is that over 60% of our business is from repeat clients, some of which Moorefield has worked with for 30-plus years.

R&R: Why should owners/operators choose your company to be their next contractor?

Moorefield: Moorefield Construction Inc. has a proven track record in all aspects of retail and restaurant construction of which this success spans over six decades. Moorefield would be happy to provide a list of its many satisfied partners, if requested.

R&R: How many retail/restaurant clients do you have, and is that sector growing for you? Would you like to name any of your clients?

Moorefield: Moorefield Construction Inc. has a countless amount of retail and restaurant clients. While Moorefield continues to construct numerous retail projects, Moorefield has recognized significant growth in our restaurant clientele given the increase from the entertainment sector. R&R: What are some of the latest trends you see in the commercial construction industry now?

Moorefield: For the commercial construction industry, Moorefield is seeing many of our upcoming retail projects utilizing a reduced footprint for the single tenants, an increase in multi-tenant retail buildings and a greater need for quick-serve and dine-in restaurants.

R&R: What predictions do you have — for your company, your industry or both — in 2023?

Moorefield: As we enter 2023, Moorefield predicts a resurgence in the building of entertainment facilities, movie theaters, renovating old movie theatres, restaurants and bars.

R&R: What are the top three most recent projects you are most proud of?

Moorefield: A high-end restaurant named Puesto at the Bella Terra shopping mall in Huntington Beach, California; an open-air shopping center called The Vineyards at Porter Ranch in Porter Ranch, California; and the recently completed Hell’s Kitchen at the Harrah’s Rincon in Funner, California.
