Buford, Ga. — Nordstrom plans to close its Mall of Georgia Store in Buford, Ga. Originally opened in 2000, the store will remain open to serve customers through its last day of business on February 28, 2015.

“Despite our team’s best efforts, the bottom line is that we simply don’t do enough business here to continue operating the store into the future,” says Jamie Nordstrom, president of stores for the company. “We had the opportunity to end our lease and in looking at our options, it made the most sense for our business to make the decision to close the store.”

The closure impacts about 174 non-seasonal employees. “With a number of Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores in the greater Atlanta area, we have let our people here know that if they want to stay with our company, we’ll do our best to help them find a role,” says Nordstrom. Employees who do not have a role at another store and remain until their last scheduled shift will be provided with a separation plan.

Nordstrom remains committed to serving customers in the Atlanta area at two full-line Nordstrom stores at Phipps Plaza and Perimeter Mall, and at four Nordstrom Rack stores at Mall of Georgia Crossing, Buckhead Station, North Point Market Center and Perimeter Expo.

Nordstrom, Inc. is a leading fashion specialty retailer based in the U.S. Founded in 1901 as a shoe store in Seattle, today Nordstrom operates 289 stores in 38 states, including 118 full-line stores in the United States and one in Canada; 167 Nordstrom Racks; two Jeffrey boutiques; and one clearance store.
