Silver Diner is First Restaurant Group in Mid-Atlantic to Offer On-Site Vaccination

by Katie Lee

Rockville, Md. — Silver Diner is taking the lead in ensuring that its employees are vaccinated and offering a convenient way for its guests to get vaccinated. The restaurant is partnering with Kaiser, the company’s primary insurance carrier, and the Fairfax County Department of Health, and bringing a mobile van to Silver Diner locations throughout the Washington, D.C., region and Baltimore.

Kaiser has partnered with Silver Diner on health and wellness programs for the past 15 years. Now, they have a mobile health unit they began bringing to various Silver Diner locations on September 17 to administer Pfizer vaccinations against COVID-19, now approved by the FDA. Anyone interested in getting vaccinated can just show up at any of the locations below:

The mobile vaccination campaign will run from September 17 to September 27 for first doses. Second doses run through October 18.

To date, Silver Diner has spent more than $1 million on safety protocols. This past spring, Silver Diner launched a robust vaccination program and designated a company “Vaccine Czar” to assist employees in navigating vaccination locations, online registrations, transportation and to answer any questions. The company also provided bi-lingual educational information on the vaccine.

Over a year ago, Silver Diner invested in hospital-grade air purification systems for all its locations. The customized system includes UV light and two-pronged air purification. In addition, Silver Diner created outdoor tented cafes, implemented plexiglass dividers, antimicrobial menus and touchless pickup outside its restaurants.

“We have done everything possible to help keep our guests and employees safe,” says Robert Giaimo, co-founder, president and CEO of Silver Diner. “Our company has always made wellness, health and safety a top priority for our employees and our communities. With the mobile vans, we’re now able to help any additional employees or guests who have not yet been able to get a vaccine.”

With restaurants throughout Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey, Silver Diner was established in 1989 in Rockville, Md. Today, Silver Diner operates 19 restaurants, serving 3 million customers yearly throughout the Washington, D.C., metro Area.
