IKEA Canada Names Halifax Store Manager

by Katie Lee

Burlington, Ontario (Canada) — IKEA Canada has named Sue Coulet as the new IKEA Halifax store manager. Having held a variety of senior management roles in Atlantic Canada over the past two decades, including leading the expansion of two national retail chains in the region, Coulet brings to IKEA a deep understanding of the local marketplace.

“I am privileged to join the IKEA team and am excited to bring to Nova Scotia what people know and love about IKEA,” says Coulet. IKEA is keen to improve life at home and understand the needs and dreams of Canadians in Atlantic Canada. “I am proud that our new store is being constructed to operate as the most sustainable IKEA store in Canada and am looking forward to making the shopping experience a fun day out for the whole family.”

“Sue’s collaborative leadership style makes her a perfect fit for IKEA,” says Stephen Bobko, IKEA Canada’s human resources manager. “Her keen business sense and passion for building strong teams makes her the ideal person to lead our new store in Halifax.”

IKEA Halifax is on track to open in fall 2017. The LEED-certified store will feature rooftop solar photovoltaic panels, geothermal energy generation and will have a particular focus on energy efficiency and waste avoidance. The rooftop solar photovoltaic installation will provide electricity to the store, geothermal energy generation will support heating and cooling needs, and the store will feature 100% LED lighting. Waste management equipment will be installed to maximize material recycling and diversion from landfill, and a free take-back service will be offered for household batteries and light bulbs to ensure the hazardous materials contained are recycled responsibly.

IKEA Halifax will be the first new store to open as part of a coast-to-coast expansion effort which will double the store count from 12 to 24 in the next 10 years.

IKEA is a leading home furnishing retailer with 375 stores in more than 50 countries worldwide. IKEA Canada has 12 stores, an eCommerce virtual store, six pickup and order points in Quebec City and southern Ontario and two collection points in Halifax and Saskatoon. In addition to Halifax, IKEA Canada plans to open a new store soon in Quebec City. For more information, visit www.IKEA.ca.
