Brentwood, Tenn. — Tractor Supply Company, the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, has officially begun construction on its new distribution center in Navarre, Ohio. Grand Rapids, Mich. — As part of its ongoing effort to increase its sustainability initiatives, Meijer plans to transition the interior lighting of its retail locations to all LED by 2021. The transition will affect all Meijer stores across the retailer’s six-state footprint. Meijer expects the change will reduce its lighting electrical use by as much as 50% annually.

Cincinnati — Kroger has opened its Culinary Innovation Center in downtown Cincinnati. Kroger commenced construction on the 12,000-square-feet, LEED-designed Center in March 2017. The commercial kitchen features multiple cooking stations, spaces and capabilities, including technology that allows video streaming of educational sessions to Kroger associates across the country.

Seattle — On December 24, 2016, REI’s newest distribution center, located in Goodyear, Ariz., achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification — the highest level in the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) green building rating system — making it the first distribution center in the U.S. to achieve both LEED Platinum certification and Net Zero Energy.
