IKEA Plans to Open St. Louis Store

St. Louis — The proposed 380,000-square-foot location is scheduled to open in fall 2015.

St. Louis — IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, has submitted plans to the city of St. Louis for a 380,000-square-foot store in the city’s Midtown submarket. The proposed IKEA store would sit on nearly 21 acres in the Cortex Innovation District. The St. Louis location is scheduled to open during the fall of 2015.

Additional Midwest stores for the company include its Chicago-area location in Bolingbrook, as well as IKEA Schaumburg. IKEA also has a Kansas City area store under construction in Merriam, which will open in fall 2014.

Since its founded in Sweden in 1943, IKEA has grown to more than 340 stores in 42 countries, including 38 locations in the U.S.
