KTGY Architecture + Planning Recognized for Anaheim White House Restaurant Design

by Katie Lee

Irvine, Calif. — KTGY Architecture + Planning recently received a “special award of excellence” from the judges of the 2019 Gold Nugget Awards for its rebuilding and restoration of Anaheim White House Restaurant in Anaheim, Calif. The builder was Placa Construction Inc.

Following a devastating fire, the KTGY team worked with historic restoration consultants and property owner to rebuild and restore the 1909 Colonial-style mansion and side house. A second architectural team rebuilt the kitchen and interior dining room. Careful consideration had to be made during the process as the building needed to be brought up to the current code standards while also meeting the historic preservation guidelines in accordance with the requirements of the National Register of Historic Places. The process included removing all non-historic elements that had been added to the façade over the years. The building footprint remained unchanged while the pillars and intricate details were recreated, allowing the 110-year-old-buildings to feel brand new.

As well as an active restaurant, Anaheim White House Restaurant is home to a nonprofit organization which prepares and delivers 3,500+ hot evening meals daily for food-insecure kids in Orange and Los Angeles counties who are at risk of malnutrition.
