Meijer Announces $160 Million Store Investment

Grand Rapids, Mich. — Meijer has announced an investment of approximately $160 million in 2013 that will assist in the construction of six new supercenters and the renovation of five additional locations.

 

Grand Rapids, Mich. — Meijer has announced an investment of approximately $160 million in new and remodeled stores in 2013. The investment includes the construction of six new Meijer supercenters in Danville and Evergreen, Illinois; Portage and Warsaw, Indiana; and Detroit and Swartz Creek, Michigan. 

Meijer will also renovate one Illinois location in Springfield and four Michigan locations in Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Taylor. Most notably, the Lansing location will be rebuilt from the ground up, and the Grand Rapids location will see Meijer’s new flagship remodel prototype, which may be considered for future stores. The stores’ remodeling will improve lighting, heating, refrigeration, exterior lighting and parking lots. 

Meijer has opened 29 new stores since 2007 and remodeled dozens more. The chain currently operates 199 grocery stores and supercenters in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan.
