Racanelli Construction Completing Broadway Plaza Retail Project

Melville, N.Y. — The $30 million redevelopment project required Racanelli to perform an excavation of the site and then build piles, and a mass concrete foundation.

Melville, N.Y. — Racanelli Construction Company, Inc., a leading construction management, general contractor and design/build resource for commercial, industrial, retail, medical, pre-engineered and multi-unit residential projects, is slated to complete a multi-level retail center on behalf of New York City-based Equity One (Northeast) Inc. The project consists of three floors, each 74,888 square feet. Serving as a construction manager of the project, Racanelli Construction is expected to deliver the retail center, Broadway Plaza, located in the Riverdale trade section of the Bronx by its projected completion date of May 30, 2014 despite this year’s grueling winter.

Broadway Plaza is situated at the intersection of W. 230th Street and Broadway. Major retailers will include Sports Authority, T.J. Maxx, Aldi Food Market and Party City. In total, the space will have 115,000 square feet of gross leasable area. A landscaped pedestrian plaza is a feature of the center, which is being constructed on a former parking lot that was previously owned by New York City.

The $30 million redevelopment project, for which Equity One was selected by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, required Racanelli to perform an excavation of the site and then build piles, and a mass concrete foundation. Pre-fabricated exterior walls were used. Other construction materials used in the project include: block, structural steel and an exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS). Interior elevators and exterior escalators also were installed in the project.

Broadway Plaza is a LEED-Certified and an Industrial & Commercial Abatement Program (ICAP) qualified project with the City of New York.
