Framingham, Mass. — Staples, Inc. has named Steve Matyas its new president, North American retail. He previously had been president of Staples Canada/Bureau en Gros since July 2000, and will continue to serve as a member of the company’s executive committee.
“Steve has over 25 years of deep experience leading Staples Canada, and a proven track record of delivering profitable growth and innovation,” says Shira Goodman, interim chief executive officer, Staples, Inc. “Realigning our retail leadership will strengthen our position as we continue to right-size our store network and evolve to meet the changing needs of business customers.”
Matyas joined Business Depot Ltd. in Canada as its first employee in March 1991. He has also served as vice president, operations, human resources and store planning, and vice president, sales and operations.
