Chicago — Starwood Retail Partners has named Eric Allen vice president of construction, effective January 22, 2018. He will report to Starwood Retail COO Jeff Zeigler. Allen joins Starwood from Simon Property Group.

Allen, a 25-year veteran in development and construction, will oversee the company’s numerous redevelopments, including Northridge Mall in Salinas, Calif.; Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond, Va.; The Mall at Wellington Green in Wellington, Fla.; and the $125 million reimagining of The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano, Texas; among other projects. He also will oversee tenant coordination.

“Eric has overseen the successful development and redevelopment of the best-known retail projects in the United States, multifamily properties and hospitality,” Zeigler says. “His leadership, insight and experience will be invaluable as we evolve beyond the traditional mall and lifestyle center structure to create mixed-use projects that will serve our communities now and in the future.”

Prior to joining Starwood Retail Partners, Allen spent 11 years with Simon Property Group, where he coordinated the redevelopment of Stanford Shopping Center and the award-winning renovation of Southdale Center, and oversaw the project planning of Del Amo Fashion Center, among others. As director of construction for A&R Development, he oversaw the construction of condominium and single-family housing. Allen also was a project manager at The Whiting Turner Contracting Company, working on retail and hospitality properties.

Owned by Starwood Capital Group, Starwood Retail Partners is the fifth largest owner of regional malls in the United States, with 30 malls and lifestyle centers in 16 states across the country. Since its founding in 2012, the team has focused on acquiring, redeveloping, managing, leasing and operating the next generation of shopping centers focusing on a new generation of shoppers and an increasingly interconnected consumer.
