Louisville, Ky. — Sun Tan City, a chain of privately owned tanning salons, has opened 22 franchised salons in Missouri and Michigan, and its first location in Idaho. These openings bring the company’s total number of franchise stores to 172. Combined with 93 corporate-owned locations, the chain now has 256 units in 19 states.
The Louisville-based company converted seven Hawaiian Sun locations in Springfield, Mo.; 15 Midnite Sun locations in Western Michigan; and one Baja Sun location in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
“We are excited to have these three strong independent salon operators join the Sun Tan City family as we continue to expand the geographic footprint of our brand,” says Rick Kueber, Sun Tan City CEO and co-founder. “Adding experienced, savvy new ownership to expand the brand has been a major franchising focus over the last year. We have and continue to see the results of this work through the rapid growth and increased interest in franchising.
Sun Tan City has also recently signed conversion agreements with independent operators in Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Through these agreements, along with organic growth, the company expects to open an additional 20 locations by March 2014. During the past 12 months, the company opened or converted 46 new franchise locations in 18 states.
