Vaughan, Ontario — Franchise Management Inc. (FMI) has acquired Saskatchewan-based El-Rancho Food Services Limited. The sale includes all of El-Rancho’s 21 KFC assets throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba and brings FMI’s total Canadian KFC restaurants to 85. FMI also operates KFC restaurants in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Ontario.

Seattle — Leading fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom, Inc. opened the doors to its new store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre on September 16, 2016, marking the company’s second international flagship location since opening at Pacific Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, last fall.
New York City and Calgary, Alberta (Canada) — Saks Fifth Avenue plans to open its third Canadian location, in Calgary, Alberta. Expected to open in January 2018, the 115,000-square-foot, two-level location will be part of CF Chinook Centre, a Cadillac Fairview property. The new store will feature a modern and authoritative merchandise assortment. In addition to its elevated assortment, the new location will offer a full service Fifth Avenue Club, complete with private suites and personal shopping consultants.
Toronto — Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH will open its first stores to Canadian shoppers on March 17, 2016 in Vaughan Mills, Halton Hills and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. These Ontario locations are the first of nine to open in 2016 and up to 25 nationwide in the coming years.
Spartanburg, S.C. — Pure Barre opened its first international location in late February 2016. The fitness studio is located on Queen Street West, a well-known retail and entertainment district in Toronto, Ontario. Pure Barre’s Canadian expansion continues with two Vancouver locations set to open later this year.
Rockville, Md. — Petco will be acquired for $4.6 billion by CVC Capital Partners (Luxembourg) and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. The deal should close in early 2016. With its headquarters in San Diego, Petco had been taken private in 2006 in a $1.8 billion buyout by California-based private equity firms.
Toronto — Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH has revealed its first three store locations in Canada as it prepares to enter the Canadian marketplace in 2016. Three Ontario cities — Ottawa, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Vaughan (just north of Toronto) — will welcome Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores in spring 2016. This announcement identifies the first of up to 25 locations that Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH plans to open nationwide.
