Grand Rapids, Mich. — On Sept. 1, 2022, Meijer introduced a new brick-and-mortar store concept — Meijer Grocery — that will provide convenience for customers who are looking for a simplified shopping experience, while providing communities easier access to fresher foods. Meijer Unveils New Renewable Solar Project as Part of Carbon Reduction Goal

Grand Rapids, Mich. — Midwestern retailer Meijer has launched a utility-scale solar project that will make significant strides toward its recently announced carbon reduction goal. Meijer signed a renewable energy power purchase agreement (VPPA) with developer Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions*, which states Meijer will purchase a portion of all energy generated by the project for the first 15 years of operation. Meijer and Dow Roll Out Paving Pilot Program Using Recycled Plastic Bags

Midland, Mich. — In collaboration with Meijer, Dow has enabled a new paving technique using recycled plastic bags to create a more durable parking lot for the retailer’s Holland, Mich., supercenter. This recycled polymer modified asphalt (RPMA) parking lot is a three-phase pilot project that used approximately 12,500 pounds of post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR), which is the equivalent weight of 944,000 plastic grocery bags. Meijer to Transition All Stores to LED Lighting by 2021

Grand Rapids, Mich. — As part of its ongoing effort to increase its sustainability initiatives, Meijer plans to transition the interior lighting of its retail locations to all LED by 2021. The transition will affect all Meijer stores across the retailer’s six-state footprint. Meijer expects the change will reduce its lighting electrical use by as much as 50% annually.
