Plymouth, Minn. — Effective November 1, 2015, Nilfisk Group has acquired Hydro Tek, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-pressure cleaners in North America. U.S.-based Hydro Tek has a strong position in the high-pressure market, and the acquisition significantly increases Nilfisk’s market reach in this business throughout North America.
Cincinnati and Milwaukee — The Kroger Co. and Roundy’s, Inc. have formed a definitive merger agreement under which Kroger will purchase all outstanding shares of Roundy’s. The Midwest grocer will expand Kroger’s footprint with a complementary base of 151 stores and 101 pharmacies in new markets.
Bethesda, Md. — EDENS, one of the nation’s largest owners and developers of community shopping centers, has appointed Rob Wyant as chief operating officer. He brings over 30 years of experience in the retail real estate industry, with most of his career spent at General Growth and Westfield.
Seattle — Online retail giant Amazon opened its first brick-and-mortar bookstore, called Amazon Books, on November 3, 2015 at University Village in north Seattle. The store opens 20 years after Amazon began selling books — severely discounted compared to traditional retailers — over the Internet.
New York City — ABM, a leading provider of facility solutions, has hired Anthony Piniella as chief communication officer. Piniella will focus on implementing a communication strategy to position and enhance ABM’s reputation within the industries it serves and across all audiences.
Dublin, Calif. — Ross Stores, Inc. has appointed Brian Morrow as president and chief merchandising officer of dd’s DISCOUNTS, effective December 7, 2015. Morrow will report directly to Barbara Rentler, the company’s CEO, and be responsible for directing all aspects of merchandising at dd’s DISCOUNTS.
Grand Rapids, Mich. — As part of a $50 million extensive remodeling project for four supercenters in the Dayton, Ohio, market, Meijer’s Beavercreek, Ohio, store is the company’s first to feature all-LED lighting, saving more than a half million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
