Dallas — 7-Eleven, Inc. (SEI), the world’s largest convenience retailer with 56,400 stores worldwide, has signed a master franchise agreement with Seven System Vietnam Co. Ltd. to develop and operate 7-Eleven® stores in Vietnam. The expansion marks the company’s first stake in the Pacific Rim since 7-Eleven entered Indonesia in 2009.
City of Commerce, Calif. — 99 Cents Only Stores LLC has appointed Jack L. Sinclair as chief merchandising officer. He brings more than 30 years of experience to 99 Cents Only Stores, specifically in grocery retail at both North American and European retailers.
Toronto — In addition to completing the acquisition of 12 former Target sites, Lowe’s Canada also plans to open two more locations in Ontario. Construction is currently underway in Ancaster and Mississauga, representing an additional investment in excess of approximately C$50 million.
Dublin, Calif. — Ross Stores has opened 19 Ross Dress for Less® and 8 dd’s DISCOUNTS® stores across 15 different states in July. These new locations are part of the off-price retailer’s 2015 expansion plans to add a total of approximately 90 stores during the year, including 70 Ross and 20 dd’s DISCOUNTS.
Los Angeles — Paul Marciano, co-founder and chief executive officer of Guess?, Inc., has named Victor Herrero as his successor and new CEO of Guess?, Inc. in August 2015. Paul Marciano will replace Maurice Marciano as executive chairman of the board and will continue serving as chief creative officer. Maurice Marciano will remain a director, and has been named chairman emeritus by the board of directors.
Hoffman Estates, Ill. — Sears Holdings has hired former Gymboree COO Joelle Maher as president and chief member officer for the Sears format. In this role, Maher will be responsible for developing the Shop Your Way® member-centric business strategy for the Sears format, managing the Sears P&L and aligning merchandising, marketing, pricing and selling with the needs of its members.
New York City — J.Crew Group, Inc. has launched a new initiative, J.Crew Mercantile, which will feature a collection of value-driven merchandise with classic J.Crew style for women, men and children. The first J.Crew Mercantile location is planned to open in late July at The Shops at Park Lane in Dallas.
Cincinnati — According to its recently released 2015 Sustainability Report, Kroger has reduced overall energy consumption in its stores by 35%. The company saved 2.4 billion kWh of power, which is the carbon equivalent of taking 334,000 cars off the road for a year.
