New York City — On October 6, Marimekko opened its flagship store in New York City in the heart of Manhattan. The store is located in the Flatiron District at 200 Fifth Avenue between 23rd and 24th Street, at the convergence of Fifth Avenue and Broadway.
The new flagship store plays an important role in growing Marimekko’s profile and brand image in the United States. The New York City store is based on the same concept as the flagship that opened in Helsinki earlier this year — both stores were designed by the Japanese architectural firm IMA in cooperation with Marimekko’s own shop design team.
“The flagship will support our online store, which opened in the summer, and our large-scale U.S. cooperation with Crate and Barrel,” says President and CEO Mika Ihamuotila. “At the moment, there are already six Marimekko stores inside Crate and Barrel home furnishings stores, with the intention to open 17 more.”
Founded in 1951, Marimekko is a Finnish textile and clothing design company renowned for its original prints and colors. Marimekko products are sold in approximately 40 countries. For more information, visit www.marimekko.com.
