Durham, N.C. — Rise Biscuits Donuts, a fast growing biscuits and donuts chain, has signed a five-unit franchise deal for the greater Kansas City area. The upcoming Kansas City locations — expected to be on both sides of the Missouri and Kansas state lines — will be the first to hit the Midwest.

Canton, Mass. — Dunkin’ Donuts has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with existing franchisees Lagunita Franchise Operations, LLC (LFO). Over the next several years, the franchisee group is planning to open seven new restaurants throughout Montgomery, Ala. The first two locations are scheduled to open in 2019.
Wallingford, Conn.— John Merkin has been named COO of Edible® International (Edible®). In this role, he will oversee all franchise operations for the world’s largest franchisor of shops offering creatively designed fresh cut fruit arrangements. Merkin will also oversee Edible’s® supply chain organization.
Houston — Chicken Express, with more than 250 locations in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, has selected Revention as a preferred point-of-sale (POS) provider. Chicken Express was established in 1988 by Richard and Nancy Stuart’s Stuart Group Inc. The first restaurant opened in 1988 in Benbrook, Texas.
Syracuse, N.Y. — CoreLife Eatery, a fast-growing active lifestyle restaurant based in upstate New York, has its eye on the western United States for expansion. The brand is looking to its new vice president of franchise development, Brooks Speirs, to lead that charge. He joined CoreLife Eatery in March.
Denver — Chipotle Mexican Grill plans to divert half of all of its restaurant waste from landfills by 2020. Since 2015, Chipotle has made significant strides towards reducing the amount of food and packaging waste bound for landfills, increasing its diversion rate from 31% that year to 40% in 2017. Now the company embarks on achieving a 50% diversion rate.
