Commerce, Calif. — As part of its aggressive growth plan, Smart & Final, one of the longest continuously-operating food retailers in the U.S., has opened 33 Smart & Final Extra! stores in California. The locations, which were acquired in December 2015, were previously operated under the Haggen banner.
Minneapolis — Target Corporation has hired Mark Tritton as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. In addition, Jason Goldberger will assume the newly created role of chief digital officer and president of Target.com. Both Tritton and Goldberger will report to Target’s chairman and CEO, Brian Cornell, effective June 5, 2016.
New York City — Natural French beauty retailer L’OCCITANE en Provence opened its fifth flagship store on May 16, 2016 in Disney Springs, a new waterfront district for shopping, dining and entertainment at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Dallas — Smoothie Factory and Gold’s Gym, both Dallas-based companies, have entered into an agreement to test several Smoothie Factory locations inside select Gold’s Gym® locations. The first Gold’s Gym Smoothie Factory opened in Cedar Park, Texas, in February 2016. The second location is now open in Richardson, Texas, and a third location is slated for later this summer.
Los Angeles — A new 5,511-square-foot GUESS flagship store will soon open in Moscow’s Europeisky Mall. Close to the city center and well served by the subway, the 1.9 million-square-foot Europeisky Mall is one of Moscow’s most popular destinations with more than 500 stores. The new opening is the fruit of a new joint venture established in February 2016 with a local Russian partner.
Conshohocken, Pa. — David’s Bridal, a leading bridal and special occasion retailer in the U.S., is partnering with Diltex, a leading manufacturer and retailer of intimate apparel in Mexico, to open its first franchise location in Mexico City. The store is expected to open by the end of 2016 with additional franchise locations planned to open over the next 5 years across the country.
Westborough, Mass. — BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc. has appointed Lee Delaney as executive vice president, chief growth officer, effective May 9, 2016. Delaney will be responsible for the company’s merchandising and supply chain organization, and will report directly to BJ’s president and CEO, Chris Baldwin.
