Calgary, Alberta (Canada) — On June 15, 2018, Shell and Hydrogen Technology & Energy Corporation (HTEC) launched Canada’s first retail hydrogen refueling station for hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. This is the first retail hydrogen vehicle refueling station in Canada open to the public, and the first of three sites that Shell and HTEC plan to open in Vancouver.
Oakville, Ontario — TIM HORTONS® is undertaking a multi-year plan to expand and modernize its Canadian distribution network as part of a long term commitment to support restaurant owners and improve the guest experience in restaurants. The plan includes the construction of two new warehouse facilities — one in Alberta and one in British Columbia — and the significant expansion of an existing warehouse in Debert, Nova Scotia.
Toronto — UNIQLO, the global casual apparel retailer, plans to open four new Canadian stores in fall 2018, including three new stores in the greater Toronto area at Vaughan Mills, CF Markville and Square One Shopping Centre and one new store in the greater Vancouver area at Coquitlam Centre.
New York City and Calgary, Alberta — Saks Fifth Avenue has opened its newest store and third Canadian location, Saks Calgary. The 115,000-square-foot, two-level retail destination is located at the CF Chinook Centre, Calgary. An in-store dining experience and salon are slated to open soon in 2018.
Laval, Quebec — Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (Couche-Tard), one of the world’s largest convenience store retailers with over 15,000 stores globally, has announced new full-service franchise opportunities with its Circle K brand in Canada. The expansion marks the first time the Circle K brand will be franchised in Canada with the offer initially targeting the Ontario province.
Toronto — Pizza Hut Canada, a division of YUM! Brands, Inc. and the world’s largest pizza franchise, has entered into a development arrangement with Franchise Management Inc. (FMI). Under this agreement, FMI will purchase 38 existing Pizza Hut restaurants in Quebec and the Greater Ottawa/Kingston region, as well as add new DelCo (delivery/carry out) model stores in Eastern Canada over the next 5 years.
Vancouver — Kohler Co. is expanding availability of its renowned kitchen and bathroom products with the opening of the first Canadian KOHLER Signature Store at West Broadway and Fir Street in Vancouver. The new store, solely owned and operated by EMCO Corporation, will open at the end of March.
